Garibaldi Provincial Park Campgrounds Reopen

Following an extended closure due to high water levels and flooding, Garibaldi Provincial Park (British Columbia, Canada) day-use and campground area, and the Rampart Ponds trail and Campground have reopened.

In a Modern Campground report earlier this month, it can be recalled that high heat and unseasonably large snowpack have caused the lake to rise and flood the Garibaldi Lake Campground–impacting facilities and blocking access in or out of the campground.

BC Parks urges Garibaldi Lake and Rampart Ponds visitors to prepare for difficult conditions, including wading and traveling over rocky, slippery terrain to access the outflow bridge and shelters.

BC Parks also advises visitors who do not have sturdy footwear and strong hiking abilities that traveling to these areas is not recommended.

As per its website, an aggressive and food-conditioned bear is exhibiting threatening behavior in the Cheakamus Lake area–prompting the closure of the Singing Creek and Cheakamus Lake campgrounds until further notice.

Garibaldi Provincial Park, named after its towering 2,678-metre peak, Mount Garibaldi, was established on March 7, 1927. In honor of the 19th-century Italian patriot, Giuseppe Garibaldi, the park is known for its natural beauty and its endless hiking opportunities, as per BC Parks.

The park is located in the heart of the Coast Mountains just 70 km north of Vancouver.

With over 90 km of established hiking trails, Garibaldi Provincial Park is a favorite year-round destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Garibaldi Provincial Park offers camping, canoeing, hiking, cycling, fishing, swimming, and other outdoor recreation activities.

The park features cabins, huts, picnic areas, walk-in, backcountry, and wilderness camping.
