As The Pandemic Sparks Renewed Interest For Camping, RV Sales Boom in Canada

Motor homes and trailers are moving a lot faster than ever before as the pandemic continues. One dealership in Tecumseh even has RVs being spoken for before they arrive.

People are purchasing trailers blindly because they like the layout, the model, and they’re placing deposits on them. Edward Raymond, the owner of Leisure Trailer Sales, said that as soon as the RV arrives, “I’ll take the RV; it’s sold.”

“So, we probably have about a dozen units that are pre-sold, but they have yet to build, and they’ll purchase them as soon as they come in. They will take them.”

According to Raymond, RVing is a growing trend.

He said that COVID has meant that people don’t jump on planes, boats, or trains as often now. RVing is an excellent solution for social distancing and vacationing and giving them the chance to try something new.

He says that the increased interest has resulted in record-breaking annual sales, up 45 percent this past year.

This isn’t the only person who has seen a rise in sales. According to the Canadian Recreational Vehicle Association, wholesale shipment figures have broken records for the last four quarters.

As national and provincial parks see a rise in visitors, RVing is gaining popularity. Ontario’s provincial parks saw a record year, and that’s expected to continue this year.

Windsor Campground is a private campground in Maidstone. Ron Laliberty, the owner, said that he might extend the season or keep the site open for another month, depending on weather conditions and demand.

He said that there had been a steady, steady, and steady flow of people entering the building.

On Wednesday, one camper was at the site to purchase a trailer this year.

Barb Garber explained, “We used to have a pop-up camper, but that was way too complicated. We also thought it was impossible to camp without an onboard bathroom, so we bought this camper. This is our first full camper.”

Raymond stated that RVs are experiencing a boom in demand. He said there is a backlog in production, higher prices, and difficulties getting parts for people who already own recreational vehicles.

He said that people who order RVs now have to wait at least 12 weeks, twice the time it was before. He advised that those who are unable to wait should consider buying the entire lot.
