Muddy or snow-covered tent pads, inaccessible toilets, and unfavorable trail conditions have delayed the opening of five backcountry campgrounds in Kananaskis country (Alberta, Canada).
According to a report, Alberta Parks says the campgrounds in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park and Spray Lakes Provincial Park will remain closed throughout the Canada Day long weekend due to the remaining snowpack.
Closed campgrounds include Lillian Lake, Ribbon Lake, Aster Lake, Three Isle Lake, and Turbine.
The closures will stay in effect until July 6. However, it could be extended if the conditions do not improve
Park officials said that snowpack melt in Kananaskis is about a month behind that of a typical year. Park visitors may encounter snowy trails, and there is also a risk of avalanche on steep terrain.
