The Skenes Creek Foreshore Caravan Park (Australia) will have a major overhaul in the following months.
The park will develop two new demountable buildings, a new reception building, a new toilet area, and an amenities block with kitchen facilities. It will ensure the projects are compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act, according to a report.
The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority took control of the caravan park in December 2020 and has since undertaken a safety audit on the park and its facilities.
The audit revealed several safety issues and hazards, including the on-site kiosk, which has since been removed. As a result, the park has been operating at a limited capacity, impeded further by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Residents were consulted during a planning phase, along with the camping community, and facilities and features that were most important to all parties were prioritized.
Geelong groups SCAADA and Formflow have been brought in for construction, with the park expected to boast full capacity and brand new facilities by the end of the year.
The Labor State Government funded the project as part of a nearly AU$20 million project for the Great Ocean Road.
Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority CEO Jodie Sizer said the community is looking forward to the finished product.
“Like the Skenes Creek community and regular visitors to the area, we have been eagerly anticipating getting the much-loved Skene Creek Foreshore Caravan Park back to full capacity,” Sizer said.
“We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to this special part of the world to enjoy our brand new facilities in time for the coming peak visitor season.”
