Only 15 minutes to Wanaka, Lake Hāwea (New Zealand) is situated in beautiful mountain scenery and is famous for boating, fishing, and water sports that are summer-friendly, like windsurfing as well as kitesurfing.

According to a report, Cross Hill Domes is located at The Camp on the lakeshore. Nearby, Hāwea townships are experiencing an immense suburban development growth spurt due to Central Otago overflow.

The Camp is part of Glen Dene and Mt. Isthmus Station, owned by the Burdon family since 1929. It covers 15 hectares of lakeshore reserves. Thanks to its lush forest, private camping spots, and adventure playground feel, the holiday park is an absolute Kiwi classic.

To cater to the higher part of the market to the upper end of the spectrum, the Burdons have added six geodesic glamping domes earlier this year. A good arm’s length away from the cabins and campsites, they nestle into a hillside just below the handsome lodge reserved for dome dwellers’ exclusive use.

The geodesic domes are the newest glamping option at The Camp, which includes safari-style and bell-style tents scattered all over the grounds.

Sarah and Richard Burdon discovered the domes overseas and imported them from the USA. They are said to be the first of their kind in New Zealand. They blend heavy-duty construction with comfort and style. At 40 square meters with a high stud, they certainly don’t feel much like a tent.

Looking out through floor-to-ceiling (plastic) windows, the piece de resistance is the super king bed furnished with wool blankets and sheepskin throw. A five-star bathroom pod, a huge dressing room, and a chic wee kitchenette are at the back.

Dome guests can make use of the rustic lodge that features a fireplace and a kitchen, lounge, and sun deck. It’s an excellent place for gathering and enjoying breakfast and dinner included in the accommodation package. Visitors can also chill in the lodge’s whisky room or book a massage.

The Camp’s fantastic printed guest map area lists local activities you can enjoy, including cycling and walking. The Burdons offer hunting, fishing, and farm tours. They also plan other trips, like heli-crayfishing trips on the West Coast.

From the Camp, you can cycle all up to Wanaka through the breathtaking Hāwea River Track, which passes the must-see Hāwea Wave. Allow 3-4 hours to return to Wanaka.

Cross Hill Domes can be the perfect option for those who love camping and want to increase their luxe factor or those who are worried about sand flies or dirty beds.

They provide the breathtaking views and a serene, back-to-nature atmosphere you’d expect from your camping trip, paired with the romantic appeal as well as the luxury of a hotel room.

Cross Hill Domes begin at NZ$400 for two guests for a night. Stay, Explore, Enjoy rate is NZ$750 for two people, including accommodation, breakfast, and three-course dinner with wine at Cross Hill Lodge. For more information, visit, crosshill.co.nz
