The Burrum Heads Caravan Park is undergoing a significant redevelopment aimed at enhancing the visitor experience and boosting tourism in the Fraser Coast region.
The first phase of the $5.7 million project, which began in March 2024, has been completed, introducing larger campsites and making the facility the first Council-owned dog-friendly park in the area.
Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Michelle Byrne outlined the key upgrades, which included new roads, underground power, water, and sewerage systems, as well as modernized amenities such as a barbecue area, new toilets, and a new manager’s residence.

“The redevelopment also includes larger sites and modern facilities designed to meet the current needs of campers,” Byrne said in a news release.
With the first phase completed, the upgraded section of the park is set to reopen to visitors on February 3.
The next phase of the project, valued at $4.85 million, is expected to commence this month and will focus on the area between Burrum Street and the Burrum River.
The planned enhancements include improved campground sites, upgraded roads and services, a camp kitchen, and additional northern amenities such as a barbecue area overlooking the river.

The development will also introduce larger caravan sites to accommodate modern rigs.
“The $4.85 million second stage project will include redeveloping campground sites, upgrading roads and services, and constructing a camp kitchen, northern amenities, and a northern BBQ area overlooking the Burrum River,” Byrne added.
“These upgrades will transform the park into a premier holiday destination and strengthen Burrum Heads’ position as a must-visit location for campers, caravanners, and holidaymakers.”

The redevelopment of Burrum Heads Caravan Park aligns with the insights presented in our MC Hospitality Highlights July 2024 report.
By expanding sites, enhancing amenities, and incorporating dog-friendly policies, the park is positioning itself to accommodate a wider range of visitors, including multi-generational families and large groups.
Upgraded facilities such as camp kitchens, barbecue areas, and improved infrastructure create a more group-friendly environment, fostering shared experiences that contribute to customer loyalty.

The Burrum Heads Caravan Park redevelopment is part of the broader Burrum Heads Community Plan 2020–2030, shaped through consultation with community groups and stakeholders.
The second phase of upgrades is expected to be completed by October 2025.
