Caravan Donations Provide Emergency Housing for NSW Flood Victims

In New South Wales (Australia), a national call for caravan donations will provide temporary housing to flood victims.

According to a report, the organizers of the van-sharing scheme say that more caravans are needed because of the housing crisis that has ravaged the region.

Online caravan-sharing company Camplify is behind the flood-relief scheme that provides temporary housing for people in northern New South Wales while their damaged homes are being restored.

The donation scheme is aiding displaced residents such as Susan Ardern and her partner, whose property at Tucabia, located east of Grafton, was declared uninhabitable by insurance assessors after floodwaters ripped through the property.

Ardern said she felt grateful when they received their donated caravan.

“The flooding hit us really hard and caused terrible damage to our home,” Ardern said.

“We were knee-deep in water inside.”

Ardern stated that there was no alternative accommodation in the region until they were provided with a caravan.

In the scheme, the owners who loan the caravan to victims of flooding will get paid by insurance companies that want to aid their clients.

Renee Flynn, a Sunshine Coast caravan repair center director, said she was thrilled at the opportunity to help people in hardship.

Camplify’s Chief of Marketing, Alastair McAusland, said that the call for donations had helped provide shelter for 135 people, but it is now stepping up its campaign.
