Winter Camping Season In Qatar Brings Campers Close To Nature

Qatar‘s winter camping season 2021-2022 is officially underway and campers can enjoy time with their loved ones free from the hustle and bustle of urban life, a report said.

The winter camping season, which lasts for six months, began on October 18. It gives campers the chance to experience the beauty of nature, relive the ways of their forefathers and teach the young generation about Qatari customs, traditions, and the importance of nature.

It is a special and well-known tradition in Qatari society since ancient times where majority of people camped in deserts annually from the beginning of winter to the closing of spring. Qatar‘s ideal winter weather is a great excuse to leave the city and seek refuge in open areas near nature where they can breathe fresh air.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, which is represented by the Protection and Wildlife Department, supervises winter camping to ensure campers‘ safety as well as conservation of the natural environment.

The winter camping season has provided many business opportunities, ranging from supplying equipment to the setting up of tents to supplying campers with basic amenities.

“The Department received many applications to issue licenses for business activities which campers need such as supermarket, shops for electric items, firewood among many more,” said Assistant Director of Department of Natural Reserves, Salem Hussein Al Safran. He said that after assessing the applications, the department will make contracts with outlets and issue the licenses to operate in the two places.

To protect the environment and guarantee an enjoyable camping season, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has set certain requirements for campers.

In accordance with the camping regulations, the licensee has to conform to the applicable laws and ministerial regulations particularly those pertaining to environmental protection.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change allocated campsites in a variety of locations across the nation for camping this year.

To ensure a smooth camping experience, registration for camping commenced in three stages.

In the initial phase, the registration began on October 17 to accept the camping applications in Al Shamal, Al Ghashamiyah, Ain Mohamad, Al Nqian, Al Kharara, Mekainis, Sealine, Ras Matbakh, Arida, Zekrit, Ashiraj, and Umm Al Maa.  Camping began on October 18 for six months.

Registration for the second phase opened on October 19 within Al Reem Reserve, Al Marona, Al Mazrouha, Umm Al Aafa’i, Al Hasham, Abu Zahlof, Al Zubara, Al Udaid, Al Khuraij South, and Bu Samra and camping started from October 20 for six months.

The third phase registration for camping started on October 21 to camp in Rawdat Rashed, Rawdat Aisha, Umm Al Ezam, Al Khor, Al Waab, Al Zakhira North, Al Otouryah, Al Sane’ah, Al Khuraib North, Al Ghariyah, Al Mufair, and Ras Al Nouf where camping will start from October 22 and will last for six months.
