Glamping in Selangor: A Boost for Ecotourism and the Local Economy

The redevelopment of Ampang Lookout Point (Alop) in Selangor, Malaysia, is set to inspire further evolution of the state’s ecotourism industry at the international level.

Selangor executive councillor for tourism, Hee Loy Sian, announced that three more attractions — Sungai Chongkak, Hulu Langat, and Kanching Eco Forest Park, Rawang — are also set for development, in a bid to draw more visitors, particularly foreign tourists.

The development plans include the construction of a five-star chalet and a glamping (short for glamorous camping) site at Sungai Chongkak and the Eco Forest waterfall. This proposal has been tabled in the Selangor Economic Action Council meeting and is currently awaiting approval.

As reported by the Selangor journal, the development rights of Alop as a state forest excellence center have been handed over to Pearl Holiday Travel & Tour Sdn Bhd.

Glamping is a growing trend in the tourism industry that combines the adventure of camping with the luxury and amenities of a hotel. It provides a unique experience for tourists, allowing them to enjoy the beauty of nature without sacrificing comfort.

The introduction of glamping sites at these locations will not only enhance the appeal of these attractions but also contribute to the growth of the tourism economy.

The development of these sites is expected to boost the local economy by attracting more tourists, creating jobs, and generating revenue. However, the executive councillor emphasized that all three locations would not involve rapid developments to ensure the sustainability of the environment can be maintained.

The focus will be on improving facilities like accommodation and toilets, which are currently not attractive to the public. By enhancing these facilities, Selangor aims to develop its tourism products and attract more visitors.

The redevelopment of these sites is part of a broader effort to promote ecotourism in the state and preserve its natural beauty.

The impact of glamping on the tourism economy of a country can be significant. It can attract a new segment of tourists who are looking for unique and luxurious experiences in nature. This can lead to increased tourist spending, which can boost the local economy.

The redevelopment of Ampang Lookout Point and the introduction of glamping sites at Sungai Chongkak and the Eco Forest waterfall represent significant steps towards enhancing the ecotourism industry in Selangor.

These developments will not only attract more tourists but also contribute to the local economy and the preservation of the environment.
