South Africa-based BERG Off-Road has revealed its latest off-road camping trailer, the CX3, designed as a compact yet expandable option for adventurers seeking off-grid capability.
The CX3 builds on the company’s previous CX6 model, maintaining a squaredrop footprint while introducing features aimed at smaller camping groups. It accommodates up to three occupants and integrates a range of amenities, including a full-width bathroom, an outdoor kitchen, and versatile sleeping spaces.
Measuring slightly larger than the CX6, the CX3 is 17.6 ft long, 6.7 ft wide, and 7.5 ft high when closed. Despite the increased size, the trailer is designed as a couples’ camper, featuring modular expansions that increase interior space.
A pop-up roof creates standing height, while a fold-forward front panel reveals the upper portion of the wet bath, which includes a shower, toilet, and sink. Optional fabric or hard-sided walls offer flexibility in design and privacy.
The sleeping arrangements include a semi-island queen bed that extends from the trailer’s right side, allowing easier access for occupants. A rear expansion can house an optional single bed or a fold-out dining area. Both configurations utilize hard-wall modules for added durability and security.
The left side of the trailer is dedicated to an expansive kitchen setup. It includes a dual-burner stove, sink, and storage for cookware and flatware.
Additional features, such as a fold-down breakfast nook and multiple refrigeration options, enhance functionality. The trailer’s onboard power system includes a 1,200-W Victron inverter, solar compatibility, and lithium battery options, supporting extended off-grid use.
The CX3 also incorporates off-road-ready components, including a galvanized steel ladder frame, 2.5-ton braked axle, and 17-inch wheels with BFGoodrich tires. Optional carbon fiber body panels can reduce weight, enhancing maneuverability.
A suite of accessories, such as retractable awnings, annex tents, and storage solutions, further customizes the trailer for various camping needs.
Priced from ZAR549,950 (approximately USD 31,000), the CX3 offers a lower-cost alternative to the CX6 while retaining high-quality construction and off-road capability. According to a report by New Atlas, BERG Off-Road has indicated potential plans to bring its trailers to the U.S. market, pending further developments.
