Adgestone Campsite on the Isle of Wight could be permitted to operate year-round under a planning application submitted to the Isle of Wight Council.
John Perez of Nationwide Lodges has applied to remove two conditions attached to planning permission granted in 2002 for the campsite, which is located northwest of Sandown. The application, reference 26/01310/RVC, also proposes changes to the site’s access arrangements and the layout of its existing pitches.
If approved, the amendments would allow camping activities at Adgestone Campsite throughout the year, rather than limiting operations under the current planning conditions.
According to the application, the campsite has recently been brought back into full operation by new owners after being closed for four years under its previous proprietor. The proposal states that significant investment has been made to upgrade and recommission the site.
The application also cites customer demand for year-round caravan and camper storage. According to the proposal, customers from the Isle of Wight and other areas have repeatedly asked whether they could store caravans and campers at the campsite throughout the year.
The application links this demand to longer periods of suitable camping weather, which it says have contributed to increased interest in extended use of the site.
For outdoor hospitality operators, the proposed year-round model could have implications for staffing and revenue outside the traditional camping season.
According to IsleOfWightRadio, Mr. Perez says allowing holiday camping throughout the year could help retain approximately seven full-time employees, as well as supporting a number of maintenance contractors. The application also states that additional visitors could contribute to increased revenue for the Isle of Wight.
The proposal includes changes intended to address vehicle access to the campsite. The application describes the existing route along Lower Road in Adgestone as very narrow and says that allowing occasional access through the site’s lower gateway could help reduce difficulties caused by wider vehicles traveling along the single-track road.
The proposed changes would also rearrange the site’s existing pitches. The application does not describe the proposal as a major expansion of the campsite’s overall operation but instead focuses on changing its permitted operating period, access arrangements, and pitch configuration.
The Isle of Wight Council’s public consultation on application 26/01310/RVC is scheduled to close on October 23, 2026. A decision is currently expected by December 22, 2026.
