Jebel Hafit Desert Park Combines Glamping and Historical Tourism in Abu Dhabi

Jebel Hafit Desert Park, located at the base of Abu Dhabi’s highest peak, has become a destination for those seeking a blend of glamping, historical context, and outdoor experiences.

The park spans nine kilometers of protected land and is recognized for its UNESCO significance. It includes archaeological sites such as the Jebel Hafit Tombs, dating back 5,000 years and excavated in 1959 under the direction of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The site is accessible with roughly a two-hour drive from both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, positioning it as a feasible option for a regional staycation.

Accommodation options within the park vary from traditional camping setups to glamping structures. Heritage Tents offer a Bedouin-style experience, while Dome Tents combine comfort and immersion in the landscape, featuring private outdoor plunge pools, en-suite bathrooms, and outdoor rain showers.

Deluxe and Premium lodges provide additional amenities. Rates for Heritage Tents start at Dhs900 per night for two adults and two children. Dome Tents with plunge pools begin at Dhs2,250, Deluxe lodges at Dhs1,800, and Premium lodges at Dhs2,800.

Dining is centered at Hafit Foothills Lounge, which reflects traditional Emirati design with low seating and cultural artworks. Breakfast offerings include local dishes such as balaleet, shakshuka, chibab, khameera bread, Emirati foul, grilled halloumi, and sweet date syrup. Evening dining options include outdoor barbecues.

Visitors can engage in guided hikes, tomb tours, camel rides, biking, electric skateboarding, and buggy tours, according to What’s On. The site accommodates a range of experience levels and ages. Park staff are involved in guest experiences, including photography guidance and local knowledge sharing.

For outdoor hospitality operators, Jebel Hafit Desert Park offers insights into integrating historical and cultural assets with glamping and eco-tourism accommodations.

It demonstrates a model where heritage, outdoor recreation, and sustainable tourism converge, offering potential lessons for operators seeking to enhance guest experiences beyond standard lodging services.
