Glacier National Park will see targeted road and utility construction in 2026, including a spring and fall closure at the Two Medicine area and continued rehabilitation of Two Medicine Road.
The projects aim to replace water systems and improve road infrastructure, with some closures affecting visitor access.
According to an announcement, the Two Medicine utility project will begin in April, replacing the full water distribution system in the Two Medicine developed area and campground.
To facilitate construction, Two Medicine Road will be closed at either the Running Eagle Falls Trailhead or the park boundary. The Two Medicine Campground will remain closed for the entirety of 2026.
Access to hiking trails in the Two Medicine area will be maintained where feasible, though some trails may have limited access during construction.
Concessioner-operated boat tours and the Two Medicine Campstore will continue operations from May 29 through September 7.
Two Medicine Road rehabilitation is a multi-year project that resumed in fall 2025 with replacement of a deep culvert. The broader project includes ditch re-establishment, road repair, parking lot construction, entrance station replacement, and paving.
Work is scheduled to continue in fall 2026 and is expected to conclude in late 2027, though some elements may extend into 2028. Closures outside the park related to the project have not yet been determined.
In the North Fork–Polebridge area, construction will replace the water supply system, distribution lines, and water tank. Initial work in August is expected to have minimal visitor impact.
Full road closures along Inside North Fork Road from the Polebridge Ranger Station to Logging Creek are anticipated starting October 4, to accommodate water main and tank installation.
Trenching near the Polebridge Ranger Station is also planned for October. Public access to Bowman Lake and Kintla Lake will remain open. Most construction is expected to finish by November, with final road and area restoration completed by summer 2027.
Additional park work in 2026 includes anticipated culvert repairs on North Lake McDonald Road in fall and water distribution system replacement in the St. Mary Campground, administrative area, and visitor center from fall 2026 to spring 2027.
Partial closures at St. Mary Campground are expected during construction.
These projects overlap with Glacier National Park’s peak visitor season from May through October.
