RVers know all too well the importance of a properly functioning RV AC unit. After all, when the temperatures start to rise, there’s nothing worse than being stuck in an RV that’s not cooling down.
Fortunately, there are a few things that RV owners can do to increase airflow and improve the efficiency of their AC units. In this video, the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) shows how.
Airconditioning units in recreational vehicles are usually roof-mounted, says Tod. Once the cooling unit kicks in, the air that it blows hits a plastic plate, which then slows down the airflow.
Before getting to Tod’s hack or tip, it must be noted first and foremost that ensuring the RV is properly ventilated is crucial. Additionally, keeping the AC unit clean and free of debris will help to ensure that it’s working properly.
One hindrance to optimal airflow, however, is surprisingly not debris but is something that comes with the RV: the plastic plate underneath the AC unit. According to the video, RVers can get nearly 40% of airflow from their AC unit with the help of an attachment. This also helps reduce noise.
