In the ever-evolving world of RVing, staying connected is paramount. A recent YouTube video sheds light on a dependable and cost-effective solution for RV internet. Here’s a comprehensive breakdown:

The video’s host begins by introducing viewers to the Calyx Internet, a truly unlimited internet service without data caps or de-prioritization. Unlike many providers that tease limited data offers, Calyx offers genuine unlimited data. Interestingly, signing up for this service is considered a tax-deductible donation. The host humorously teases viewers about the spelling of ‘Calyx’ but reveals it’s spelled with a ‘C’.

2. Why Calyx? Several reasons make Calyx a top choice for RVers:

  • It’s genuinely unlimited.
  • It’s one of the most affordable options available.
  • The service is straightforward and dependable.
  • It has a reputable track record.

The Mobile Internet Resource Center introduced the host to Calyx. This center is a valuable resource for RVers, offering insights into various plans to fit different budgets and needs.

The Calyx hotspot device was initially on the Sprint network. However, since T-Mobile’s acquisition of Sprint, it now operates on both networks. While T-Mobile offers home internet, the Calyx plan is more affordable and doesn’t come with the fine print associated with larger carriers.

4. Pricing and Plans: Calyx offers different tiers. The first tier, at $500 for the first year (including the device) and $400 for subsequent years, provides 4G service. The higher tier, costing $600 for the first year, offers 5G service. This translates to roughly $33 per month for the first tier and slightly more for the 5G tier.

5. Enhancing the Calyx Experience: While the Calyx hotspot is the primary source of internet, the host recommends using an extender or gateway to connect multiple devices. This ensures a more stable connection. Additionally, while external antennas can’t be used with the Calyx device, placing the hotspot near windows or other optimal locations can enhance signal strength.

Calyx offers a free VPN service, emphasizing digital privacy and free speech. The host, however, prefers SurfsharkVPN for its affordability and comprehensive coverage across multiple devices.

While the host acknowledges the potential of services like Starlink, the cost and setup deter him. Calyx remains a reliable, budget-friendly option for many RVers.
