Brooklyn-Based Business Proposes Building 65-Unit Tiny Cabin Rental in Rhode Island

A Brooklyn-based business that markets tiny cabins for urban dwellers to escape technology and reconnect with nature has submitted a proposal to build a 65-unit campground in Burrillville (Rhode Island).

As per a Northern Rhode Island News report, Getaway has submitted a preliminary proposal that envisions three lots within the Buck Hill Scout Reservation totaling around 180 acres as the location for their latest commercial outpost.

The Buck Hill Scout Reservation would be the latest addition to Getaway’s list of 30 destinations across the country, offering short-term stays in small trailers equipped with a basic kitchen, bathroom, and bed.

The 140-200 square-foot cabins feature heat and air conditioning and are stocked with linens, pots and pans, and other cooking essentials.

According to the early plan, the company also hopes to reuse existing structures at the Boy Scout camp, as well as cell towers and septic.

The existing campground on the property, which opened in 1997, offers overnight stays to young Scouts and their caregivers and can accommodate up to 48 campers.

The proposed Getaway site is located near Cedar Swamp Pond and Wakefield Pond and is next to the state-run Buck Hill Management Area, which is managed by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Division of Fish & Wildlife and is home to various endangered, threatened, and special concern animal and plant species.

The Burrillville Planning Board is scheduled to hold a master plan review and public informational meeting on Getaway’s proposal on Monday, February 6.

As per its website, Getaway offers simple escapes to tiny cabins nestled in nature. Getaway has 16 Outposts with over 600 cabins located outside of Atlanta, Austin and San Antonio, Boston, Charlotte and Raleigh, Chicago, Cleveland and Pittsburgh, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, Portland, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.
