2 Injured at Portage County Campground RV Fire

Two people were transported to the Akron Children’s Hospital Burn Center following a fire at the McDermott’s Lakefront Camping Ground in Portage County (Ohio) early Sunday morning.

Deerfield Fire Department firefighters were called to the campground on German Church Road in North Benton at 5:36 a.m. with reports that several campers/trailers were in flames, according to a local report.

When they arrived, they found four unoccupied campers burning.

However, two individuals from one of the campers were taken to the hospital. The severity of their injuries is not known.

In a Facebook post, Assistant Chief Scott Simmons said that the cause of the fire is still under investigation but is believed to have started in the camper on lot 84, spreading to the other RVs, causing an estimated property value loss of $200,000.00.

Looks like someone was really aiming for that flaming hot deal at the campground! Maybe next time, let’s stick to roasting marshmallows instead of turning our RVs into fiery toasters on wheels. Stay safe out there, fellow campers!
