According to a report, Morrow Mountain State Park (North Carolina) has received $1.8 million in state funding.
Park Superintendent Jeff Davidson said the funding is intended to supplement bond funds due to increased materials and labor costs.
Davidson said the plan includes renovation of two campground shower houses and replacement of one with a new shower facility, new camper cabins, and upgrades to five of the park’s cabins.
Other improvements include the removal of lead pipes, improvements to the pool house, including the conversion of the kiddie pool to a spray area, and renovations to the concession stand on the mountaintop, including improved ADA access.
Morrow Mountain State Park is grateful to receive this additional funding from the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Authority to assist in supplementing funding already secured by the Connect NC bond, NC General Assembly special appropriation, and other special funding for capital improvement projects in the park,” Davidson said.
“This funding will assist in achieving the final amount needed to complete major construction and renovation projects currently under contract at the park…the improvements to these aging facilities are necessary to keep them in a safe operating condition for many years to come, providing high-quality outdoor recreation opportunities and premium camping experiences.”
Morrow Mountain’s family campgrounds, family vacation cabins, and picnic shelter was closed in June and will stay closed until 2023 due to extensive construction and renovation.
Morrow Mountain State Park is located in Stanly County, 50 miles northeast of Charlotte. The park features vacation cabins, tent sites (including backpacking sites), trailer and RV sites (some with electric hookups), and group tent sites.
