Rocky Valley RV Resort, the first new campground in New Hampshire in five years, opened its doors after a 45-year journey by owner Kevin McCauley. What began as a college student’s land purchase has now transformed into a 150-acre resort offering 34 RV sites, a clubhouse, and over 150 acres of forested nature.
McCauley, who bought the land for $200 per acre as a student at New England College, developed the property over decades. His experience in architecture and homebuilding, along with his desire to preserve the land’s natural beauty, helped shape the resort, which blends modern amenities with an immersive outdoor experience.
“I was on one of my breaks from New England College and between classes, and I walked in this place saying, ‘there’s $200 an acre for these three pieces of land.’ I came out, I looked at this one,” Kevin said, as reported by Concord Monitor.
The family-run business involves three generations of McCauleys, with Kevin’s son, Erik, returning to assist in the design after years of living in an RV and running a remote-work business. Erik’s expertise in WiFi connectivity and RV travel influenced many of the resort’s features, including free high-speed internet for guests.
Rocky Valley RV Resort has been open to friends and family throughout the summer to test operations, with the official public grand opening took place on August 31. The resort offers scenic views, hiking trails, and modern conveniences, attracting both weekend travelers and extended-stay guests.
“This is my dad’s dream, but I’m here because I thought it was a good idea. Probably the single biggest motivator for me is that I grew up on this property riding four-wheelers, and there were kids everywhere,” Erik explained.
Looking ahead, the McCauley family plans to expand the resort by adding more RV sites, enhancing accessibility, and developing new activities for visitors.
