BLM Seeks Public Input on Proposed Centennial Trails Project near Carson City

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is inviting public input on the proposed Centennial Trails Project, a non-motorized trail system that could potentially provide additional outdoor recreation opportunities for residents and visitors to the Carson City, Nevada.

The proposed trail system includes approximately 22 miles of single-track trails, trail signage, and routine maintenance on new trails, along with the 2.6 miles of existing trail included in the overall network.

The project, which was proposed by Muscle Powered, is planned to be developed on public lands managed by the BLM in Washoe, Storey, and Lyon counties on the northeast side of the city.

To address any concerns associated with the proposal, the BLM will provide an environmental assessment.

The agency is inviting the public to share any information, issues, or concerns that may need to be considered in the development of the assessment.

“We welcome any comments the public may have on this proposal and encourage them to share any information, issues, or concerns that may need to be considered in the development of the environmental assessment,” said Carson City District Manager Kim Dow.

A public meeting to discuss the proposed project will be held on April 4 at the Carson City Community Center. Outdoor Recreation Planner Arthur Callan will be available to answer any questions about the project. Public comments on the proposal will be accepted until April 24.

The Centennial Trails Project has the potential to provide an enhanced outdoor recreation experience for hikers, mountain bikers, and trail runners in the area.

It could also attract more visitors to the region, which could benefit the local hospitality industry.

The outdoor recreation industry has become an increasingly important sector in many communities across the United States, as more and more people seek out opportunities to engage in outdoor activities.

Private campground owners and operators in the nearby area could potentially benefit from the development of the Centennial Trails Project.

The addition of non-motorized trails could increase the attractiveness of the area to outdoor enthusiasts, potentially resulting in increased demand for camping and related services.

The project could also help to support the growth of the outdoor recreation industry in the Carson City area, creating jobs and generating revenue through tourism and related industries.

The Centennial Trails Project has been proposed in response to the growing demand for outdoor recreation infrastructure, such as trails, campsites, and other facilities.

By providing additional non-motorized trails, the project could help to meet this demand, while also supporting the development of a more sustainable outdoor recreation industry.

The BLM hopes to gain valuable feedback from the public during the 30-day comment period to ensure that the proposed trail system is developed in a manner that meets the needs of the community while also protecting the environment.

While the project has the potential to provide significant benefits, it is important to consider any potential impacts on the environment and other stakeholders.

In conclusion, the proposed Centennial Trails Project near Carson City is a potential boon for outdoor enthusiasts and the local hospitality industry.

The project could also have positive economic benefits for private campground owners and operators in the area. However, it is important to gather public input and consider any potential environmental impacts before moving forward with the project.
