Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area Closes Campgrounds for Major Renovations

Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area, a camping destination in Nebraska, has closed its camping facilities for extensive renovations. The closure, which began on October 17, is expected to continue until late spring 2024.

This project aims to enhance visitors’ overall camping experience by upgrading facilities and improving accessibility. According to a press release, the renovation plans focus on two main campgrounds: Pathfinder Campground and Victory Lake Campground.

“All camping at Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area is closed until further notice while improvements take place at two campgrounds…Signage will be posted in the park for safety,” the park indicated on its website.

Both campgrounds will undergo electrical upgrades to 50 amp service, a significant improvement that will accommodate larger RVs and support the electrical demands of modern travelers. These upgraded electrical systems will allow for a more reliable power supply.

Additionally, Pathfinder and Victory Lake campgrounds will see the installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant concrete pads. These improvements are part of a broader effort to ensure that all visitors, regardless of physical abilities, can enjoy the campgrounds’ facilities. A new dump station will also be added to the park’s infrastructure.

According to its website, Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area covers approximately 40 acres of land and nearly 300 water acres spread across 20 sandpit lakes. Situated just three miles west of Fremont, this recreation area is a hub for campers, picnickers, and water enthusiasts. Visitors flock to enjoy its various activities, including boating, fishing, and water skiing.

The area features several attractions designed to cater to different recreational interests. Powerboating is permitted on lakes 10 and 15, while all other lakes are reserved for non-motorized boats and electric trolling motors, ensuring a peaceful experience for kayakers and paddleboarders.

To manage safety and reduce congestion, Victory Lake restricts towing to no more than two individual skiers behind any boat. The park also provides fishing access, including five floating piers, four ADA-accessible piers, five fishing decks, two ADA-accessible decks, and eight fishing nodes.

For those planning group events, the Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area Group Lodge offers a spacious venue overlooking Lake 16. The lodge includes 1,500 square feet of indoor space and an additional 1,800-square-foot deck, making it an ideal location for family reunions, weddings, or corporate meetings.
