Washington City Council Renews Special Use Permit for Local RV Park Project

The Washington City Council recently reaffirmed its decision to renew a special use permit for an RV park project located at the intersection of West Main Street and Westlink Drive, according to an Emissourian news report. The permit was initially granted one year prior.

This decision underscores the ongoing commitment to the development of the RV park, despite the challenges faced by the project’s developers, Gregg and Brittany Gross of Washington, who were unable to attend the council meeting on February 20 due to health concerns.

The 6.42-acre site designated for the RV park, currently zoned for agriculture, was discussed in terms of its suitability for alternative uses. The recent vote for special use of permit renewal passed with a 6-1 majority.

“Do you know where they stand at this point? I mean, we’ve seen a few trees removed and then nothing else in the last year, right?” Ward 3 Councilman Jeff Patke said, as quoted in the Emissourian news report.

The slow progression of the project caused frustration among council members, with inquiries about the current status of the development following the limited activity observed over the past year.

“I think we should give them a chance,” Ward 4 Councilman Joe Holtmeier added.

The discussion also tacked on the logistical aspects of the project, including water connection fees. Community & Economic Development Director Sal Maniaci clarified that a single hookup fee would be applied to the lot, albeit with an increase in the city’s connection fee due to ordinance-based adjustments since the original permit approval

“There was power within the area but the upgrade in power needed was hundreds of thousands more than I think was anticipated. I think it was about $300,000 is what they said, just for the power,” Community & Economic Development Director Sal Maniaci said in the same report, pointing out the difficulties for utilities for the park.

Missouri offers a variety of recreational activities that cater to both residents and visitors alike, emphasizing the city’s commitment to outdoor leisure and community well-being. Among the most notable facilities is the large, well-maintained city park system. The parks feature a range of amenities such as walking trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas, designed to accommodate individuals and families looking for a serene outdoor experience.
