Ozark National Scenic Riverways (ONSR), located in Van Buren, Missouri, is gearing up for the upcoming total eclipse, urging visitors to finalize their plans as the event draws near, according to a press release.
The National Park Service (NPS) advises arriving in the morning for the total eclipse at ONSR, scheduled for 1:55 p.m. Early arrival ensures a good location for both parking and viewing. Attendees can park or opt for the shuttle service at the Big Spring eclipse event, allowing for a relaxed experience.
With less than three weeks until the eclipse, the National Park Service emphasizes the importance of early preparation, especially for those seeking to experience the phenomenon within the park’s bounds.
The eclipse, a rare celestial event, is expected to attract large crowds, putting a strain on local services and amenities. ONSR is situated along the path of totality, offering a prime viewing experience. However, the park advises that totality will not be visible at or north of Pulltite, recommending visitors consult a map of the eclipse path to plan their activities accordingly.
ONSR announced a viewing event at Big Spring, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the day of the eclipse. This location will experience nearly four minutes of totality. Attendees will be provided with free eclipse glasses, available on a first-come, first-served basis, to safely view the event.
All camping reservations within ONSR for the Eclipse weekend are currently booked, highlighting the high demand for accommodations. While reserved sites are full, the park offers first-come, first-served sites at various campgrounds, including Big Spring, Alley Spring, Pulltite, and Two Rivers. These sites are expected to fill up quickly, potentially two weeks before the eclipse.
For those unable to secure a spot within the park, privately owned campgrounds and vacation rentals in the surrounding counties offer alternative lodging options. The park encourages supporting local businesses by considering these accommodations.
Given the limited staff during this period, the park also advises visitors to finalize any plans for river floating activities as soon as possible. With the anticipated influx of visitors, local food services may be overwhelmed. The park suggests bringing sufficient food and water, emphasizing the importance of preparation to avoid long waits at water spigots and to secure food against wildlife.
