RV Park in Vicksburg Gets Big Money for Sun Power Plan

Quilly’s Magnolia RV Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi has been awarded a $1 million USDA grant for a major sustainability project, reported Newsbreak. The RV park has committed to matching this grant with an additional $1 million investment, demonstrating a significant commitment to renewable energy and environmental preservation.

Katie McLeod, founder and general manager of Quilly’s Magnolia RV Park, expressed enthusiasm for the project. “We’re excited to take this step toward sustainable energy use. Our goal is to make a significant environmental impact by reducing our reliance on traditional energy sources and protecting the natural beauty that makes RV and camping so special,” she said.

The grant, part of the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), will fund the installation of solar panels at the RV park. This initiative aims to reduce the RV park’s electric usage by 95%, marking a substantial step towards sustainability in the outdoor hospitality industry.

The solar panel project at Quilly’s Magnolia RV Park goes beyond mere energy production. The RV park plans to mount the panels on specially constructed shade structures, serving a dual purpose of generating clean energy while providing additional shade for RVs during hot summer months.

The impact of this solar initiative extends beyond energy savings. It promises to improve the overall guest experience by ensuring a reliable power supply and potentially allowing for expanded amenities powered by clean energy.

With an ambitious timeline targeting completion by the end of 2025, the RV park has allowed ample time for careful planning and execution of the installation. This timeline ensures that the new solar infrastructure will integrate seamlessly with existing operations.

The combination of the USDA grant and the RV park’s matching investment showcases a viable pathway for funding such projects. It serves as an example for other businesses considering renewable energy options in the outdoor hospitality industry.
