A funded project could improve facilities at the Cheboygan County Fairgrounds (Michigan) by updating the electrical systems used throughout the facility’s campground.
According to a report, Cheboygan County Administrator Jeff Lawson confirmed that the county is currently working on the grant application.
Lawson stated that the application for the grant would be put on the agenda for the Cheboygan County Board of Commissioners to approve for its March 8 meeting.
“Discussions are just beginning to identify possible improvement projects for the fairgrounds,” Lawson said.
Cheboygan County Fair Board held a meeting on February 7, the day before the last Cheboygan County Board of Commissioners meeting. The potential application for a Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Grant was discussed to help upgrade the fairgrounds.
At the meeting, the fair board decided to pursue the grant funding, subject to county commissioners’ approval. They will then make the necessary improvements, including electric work for the campsites.
The campground, located on the east side of the fairgrounds, between the barns and the entrance, is equipped with hookups for campers and other charging needs for those staying on the fairgrounds during the week of the fair.
There were some issues over the condition of the hookups, and people were asked not to leave the devices plugged into for a prolonged time. It is hoped that these upgrades will be made should the county be awarded a grant through the state, the issues will be resolved.
