Prospect Lake Campground in Need of Upgrades, to Shutdown for 2022 Season

Certified mail notices were placed in the mailboxes of campers who had made deposits for the summer 2022 seasonal rentals at North Egremont’s (Massachusetts) Prospect Lake Campground.

As per a report, the envelopes they signed included a shocking returned deposit check. The camp would be closed for the 2022 season.

Any winterized campers, as well as other belongings stored on-site, would have to be removed from the property by May 31, or else they will be removed by the property’s owners.

This letter was signed by Great Barrington attorney Peter Puciloski representing local developer Ian Rasch of Alander Construction who bought the property from the long-time owner Jim Palmatier on January 20. Rasch is probably more known as one of the developers of 47 Railroad Street, a mixed-use building in downtown Great Barrington.

The letter informed campers that the new owners are excited to be running the camp and are looking forward to serving them. However, the letter also said that improvements were necessary and that the new owners had the camp examined in preparation for those improvements.

The electrical system inspection identified significant deficiencies that need to be fixed to ensure the safety, health, and convenience of everyone, as per the letter.

It is not clear who determined significant deficiencies; however, the letter from Berkshire Engineering does not state that they inspected by themselves.

Berkshire Engineering President Mike Kulig said that it had been brought to their attention that certain necessary repairs and improvements will be made to the electrical system during which the supply of electrical energy to the septic system and the public water supply well will be interrupted.

With a seasonal fee of $2,400 from May 15-October 15, the Prospect Lake Park Campground might just have been the most affordable summer living option anywhere in South Berkshire County.

The park was first opened as an outdoor picnic spot in 1876, the country’s centennial year, with 2,000 feet of lake frontage and 125 campsites.

Various owners have been welcoming campers since the late 1950s with a simple style, low-key atmosphere, and a playground slide built over the water. In the past, the payphone inside the recreation hall was the only option to communicate with the outside world.
