Montgomery Parks has been granted $5.495 million in funding for 13 projects from the state of Maryland during the 2023 legislative session.
As per a report, this funding will be allocated to park projects in six legislative districts in Montgomery County. The projects include trail and bridge enhancements, playground and athletic field upgrades, sports court and skatepark facilities, community garden and picnic areas, environmental restoration, and ADA improvements.
The funding for Montgomery Parks comes as the outdoor recreation industry continues to grow, generating significant economic benefits and contributing to residents’ overall quality of life. According to the Outdoor Industry Association, the outdoor recreation industry generates $887 billion in consumer spending annually and supports 7.6 million American jobs.
Investments in parks and recreational facilities, such as the funding allocated to Montgomery Parks, play a crucial role in promoting outdoor activities, boosting tourism, and enhancing public health. As per its website, Montgomery Parks features four lakes, 27 park activity buildings, 102 campsites, 114 historic structures, 136 picnic areas, 269.6 miles of paved and natural surface trails, 420 parks across 37,220 acres, and more.
