Acadiana Park Campground, a popular outdoor destination in Lafayette, has reopened to the public with enhanced amenities, following a seven-month closure due to staffing shortages. Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Culture (PARC) Department made the announcement.
The campground, which closed on May 29, 2024, underwent a series of improvements during the hiatus. PARC officials conducted a comprehensive inspection of the site, addressing various maintenance needs to ensure the facility’s safety and readiness for visitors.
According to the department, these upgrades were necessary to bring the campground up to modern standards and to provide a welcoming environment for guests.
During the closure, the PARC team prioritized essential repairs, including fixing security lighting and plumbing issues. Maintenance crews also focused on enhancing the cleanliness and appearance of the campground by repainting showers and restrooms and cleaning high-traffic areas such as playgrounds and picnic tables.
In addition to repairs, significant attention was given to routine upkeep. The team pressure-washed pavilions and office buildings, mulched playgrounds, and cleaned campsite pads to prepare for reopening. Inspections of barbecue pits, fire pits, electrical breakers, and receptacles were conducted to ensure full functionality.
PARC Director Tim Sensley emphasized the importance of these measures in providing a positive experience for campers.
“We are happy to reopen the Acadiana Park Campground in this new year and welcome campers back to enjoy this incredible outdoor space,” Sensley said in a press release. “Our team has worked diligently to prepare the site, and we are committed to maintaining its quality through our updated maintenance plan.”
