Longtime Instructor Larry Brownfield Leads Final Class at George O’Leary National School

Larry Brownfield, assistant vice president of franchise development for Kampgrounds of America (KOA), has concluded more than a decade of service as an instructor at the George O’Leary National School of Outdoor Hospitality, leading his final Operations Management class this week.

Brownfield was recognized during the school’s opening ceremony for his long-standing role teaching Outdoor Hospitality Management and Outdoor Hospitality Professional students.

He joined the instructional team in 2014 after graduating from the program in 2013.

Terry Munoz, consultant at Campground Consulting Group, chairman of the OHI Foundation and lead for OHI’s Certified Pool & Spa Operator Training, thanked Brownfield for his passion, dedication, mentorship and leadership, citing his impact on the school and its students.

Brownfield’s career in outdoor hospitality began in 2005 when he and his wife, Carla, became full-time RVers and Work Campers, traveling from Maine to California. He joined the KOA corporate team in 2008, where he has focused on franchise development and new campground construction.

In December 2024, Brownfield completed his 100th KOA franchise agreement, marking a milestone in his corporate tenure.

“Larry Brownfield has been more than a colleague to the George O’Leary National School of Outdoor Hospitality — he has been a trusted professional, a generous mentor, and a true friend,” Dr. Mark Maciha, a longtime instructor at the school, said.

“His integrity, insight, and genuine care for both people and the profession helped shape not only our program, but the culture that defines it. Larry’s contributions will continue to resonate through the countless students and professionals whose paths he influenced,” Maciha added.

Brownfield holds an Outdoor Hospitality Executive designation and has spoken at state, regional and national industry conferences.

As an instructor, he emphasized practical application, mentorship and professional development, working to equip students with operational tools and industry insight.

The National School operates under OHI, formerly National ARVC, a national association representing private RV parks and campgrounds across North America.
