Construction is progressing on a new campground at Deep Lakes Park in Muscatine, Iowa, with plans to open for campers in 2026.
Muscatine County Conservation held a groundbreaking ceremony on March 3 to mark the beginning of the project, which aims to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities in the area.
The initial phase of the project includes 22 full-hookup campsites with electric, sewer, and water connections.
Additionally, the development will feature an asphalt roadway, paved camping pads, and a Huffcutt shower house with four family-style restrooms.
According to a report by WQAD News 8, a second phase is planned for the future, which will add 24 more campsites and a playground.
Deep Lakes Park spans 435 acres and features more than 120 acres of clear water lakes. Formerly a sand and gravel quarry, the park offers a range of outdoor activities, including fishing, hiking, kayaking, and swimming.
The new campground is expected to complement these existing amenities while expanding the park’s capacity to accommodate overnight visitors.
