Mariposa Park, located about five miles northeast of Newton in Iowa, has undergone major upgrades to enhance the outdoor experience. The 151-acre park now features new amenities, including the newly unveiled Bison Ridge Campground and Coneflower Cottage in the Jasper County Conservation.
Jasper County Conservation announced on Facebook that the Bison Ridge Campground and Coneflower Cottage at Mariposa Park are now open for booking.
“This is an exciting time for Jasper County and so many Jasper County Conservation staff put a lot of hard work into this project. Board members and staff gathered today to cut the ribbon and welcome guests,” the Facebook post indicated.
The campground offers 15 sites, each equipped with electricity, water, fire rings, and picnic tables. Visitors can also access a bathhouse with restrooms and showers. A dump station is also available. Additionally, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy activities such as kayaking, hiking, and fishing.
According to an article published by Newton Daily News (NDN) on June 3, Keri Van Zante, director of Jasper County Conservation, expressed her excitement about the new facilities. “I’m excited to see new people coming to our parks and the same people coming to our parks, but also seeing them stay longer,” she said.
In addition to the campground, a fully furnished rental cabin, Coneflower Cottage, is now available. The cabin features two bedrooms, a bathroom, a full kitchen, and a back deck with a lake view. The Bison Ridge Campground sites are available for rent at $25 per day, with a minimum stay of two days. The Coneflower Cottage can be rented for $175 per day, also with a two-day minimum.
Funding for these developments was secured through grants and the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, with the Jasper County Board of Supervisors allocating $850,000 in September 2022 for bike trail repairs and modern campground additions at Mariposa Park.
The upgrades at Mariposa Park illustrate the benefits of investing in new amenities and diverse accommodations to attract a broader range of visitors. For campground operators and RV park owners, adding modern campground sites with utilities and fully furnished rental cabins like Coneflower Cottage can significantly enhance the guest experience, encouraging longer stays and repeat visits.
