THOR Industries, a company in the recreational vehicle (RV) industry, recently launched the RV Learning Lab in collaboration with Lifeline Youth Ministries. This training program is based in Elkhart County. The learning lab aims to educate students in vital skills like electrical and plumbing work, which are applicable in RV manufacturing.
Located within Lifeline’s “The HUB” building on Prairie Street, the program collaborates with five local school systems to provide a practical learning environment for students. It includes a structured curriculum with classroom-based instruction led by professional teachers. Students undergo assessments to ensure they gain the practical skills needed in the industry.
“Just general things that can be used in an RV but also in a home, and then there’s a curriculum. There are teachers, there’s classroom setting, there’s tests, so it’s a lot of practical things that we think the kids will be able to use in our industry and other industry,” Bob Martin, THOR Industries CEO, said, as quoted in a WSBT 22 news report.
In addition to the RV Learning Lab, THOR social responsibility supports the LEAP program, which is dedicated to providing applied learning opportunities across various school levels. The program is structured to cater to different educational needs, offering distinct curricula for fifth graders, eighth graders, and high school students.
THOR Industries has initiated several professional development programs, including online learning and certification opportunities, along with a technical training academy through select subsidiaries. These initiatives are designed to enhance the skills and earning potential of their employees.
This collaboration not only aims to equip students with the necessary technical skills but also to prepare them for future opportunities in the RV industry.
