New Family-Friendly Winter Business Coming To South Lake Tahoe Campground

Budgell Enterprises, LLC will provide a brand new and exclusive experience for residents and tourists of California’s South Lake Tahoe City, a report said.

This is following an inquiry from the city to solicit ideas for a Winter Wonderland in the middle of the city.

At the Tuesday city council meeting, Mark Budgell explained why he submitted a bid protest after the panel of five City staff members scored the other bidder, Shearer Activities Inc, better on their bid.

The issue was initially scheduled to be discussed at the previous council meeting, but the bid protest was made and a vote was put off until the October 19 meeting.

Budgell claimed that the decision was biased because his proposal contained financial projections in the manner requested, while Shearer’s proposal did not. The initial scoring put Shearer ahead over the other business by 2.4 points out of 100.

A change in scoring made Budgell ahead, granting his company the contract.

The Council had the choice to reject the bid protest, approve the bid protest, or deny all bids and begin again.

Budgell declared that returning to drawing boards could be unfair because potential competitors would know the new technology he will be bringing from a Canadian startup called an E-snow bike. It is a modified mountain bike with a track on the back and a ski on the front.

In addition to the snow bike, the company plans to create the perfect winter getaway focusing on families living near Campground by The Lake, also known as the 56-acre development. The plans include a snow slide, a snow tube carousel, snow karts, bumper cars, a snowball shooting gallery, a snow bowling alley, a bungee platform, and other attractions.  The carts and bikes will be positioned on the 2.5-mile course.

He also said that they’d make a family-friendly experience where everyone can have fun in the snow without spending an enormous amount of money.

Vito Phelan, Budgell’s partner in the project, explained that the new system would have a minimal impact on the environment, and the noise of the e-snowbikes would be less than the noise heard from nearby Lake Tahoe Blvd.

“We’re stoked, we’re local, and we’re excited,” said Phelan. “It will be a unique experience for years to come.”

He added that they will begin working on permits from TRPA and the City.

I’m truly enthusiastic about the new Winter Wonderland at Campground by The Lake in South Lake Tahoe. It’s going to offer so much more than just the family-friendly activities we heard about initially. The addition of a refined lodge with hot cocoa and seasonal treats is a splendid idea, providing a comforting and inviting space for everyone. I can’t wait to experience the special themed events and live entertainment. It’s going to be a remarkable way to create lasting memories with family and friends.
