D.L. Bliss State Park Extends Closure Through Summer 2025 for Infrastructure Upgrade

D.L. Bliss State Park, a popular destination on the shores of Lake Tahoe, will remain closed for camping and partially closed for day use through summer 2025.

The extended closure is due to an ongoing waterline infrastructure replacement project. Campground reservations for the 2025 season will remain unavailable until further notice.

Lester Beach and Calawee Cove will remain accessible for water access via Lake Tahoe and foot access through the Rubicon Trail originating at Emerald Bay State Park

Portions of the park west of Highway 89 will also remain open for winter backcountry use, allowing visitors to explore the area despite the ongoing closure. Bouldering and rock-climbing areas east of Highway 89, which have been closed for the past two seasons, are set to reopen in 2025. Access to these sites will be available through designated roadside parking areas for walk-in visitors.

According to a press release, no restroom or trash facilities will be available at the park’s open areas during this period. Visitors are encouraged to adhere to “Leave No Trace” principles to minimize their environmental impact.

Due to construction activities on park roadways, emergency response vehicle access will be limited, and response times may be delayed. Visitors are advised to plan accordingly for any potential delays.

Nearby campgrounds and day-use areas at Emerald Bay State Park and Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park will remain fully open and available to the public during summer 2025, providing alternative recreational opportunities.

California State Parks expressed gratitude for the public’s understanding. “California State Parks appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation as it works to improve D.L. Bliss State Park for all visitors,” the press release showed.
