Brannan Island State Recreation Area Reopens

Brannan Island State Recreation Area, one of the most affordable and popular freshwater recreation, boating, and camping destinations in the Bay Area (California), has fully reopened nine months after closing and reopening on weekends only.

According to its website, the park, located just north of Antioch and south of Rio Vista, is part of a maze of waterways and marshes in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta and offers a wide range of activities for visitors, including boating, fishing, swimming, and camping.

The park boasts a six-dock boat launch and a concrete handicapped dock that was remodeled several years ago, making it a popular attraction for boaters.

One of the highlights of the park is its outstanding water-oriented recreation areas offering great fishing opportunities, which include a variety of species such as striped bass, sturgeon, catfish, bluegill, perch, and bullhead.

Brannan Island State Recreation Area offers a variety of day-use areas for visitors to enjoy, including the Ramadas group picnic area and the Seven Mile Slough picnic area. Both of these areas close at sunset. The Windy Cove day-use area also closes at the hour posted at the entrance road.

The Seven Mile Slough picnic area features picnic tables, barbecues, and drinking water.

The Ramadas offer shaded picnic structures with large barbecues, picnic tables, water and trash receptacles. There is also a large open grassy area nearby for games.

The park offers a ten-lane launch ramp, over 140 campsites, and areas for picnicking and swimming.

Online camping reservations for Brannan Island State Recreational Area are available on ReserveCalifornia.com.

Brannan Island State Recreation Area is now open daily from sunrise until one hour after sunset. This will include the day-use areas, the boat launch, and select sites for camping. The recreation area can accommodate trailers varying from 20 feet to 36 feet in length.
