Lake Catherine State Park To Close Until 2023 For Maintenance

The Lake Catherine State Park staff announced on Thursday that the park would be closed for recreation from December 1 until the 18th of March 18, 2023 for maintenance.

Maintenance includes repairs and replacements to sewer pipes in the ground, as per the report of KATV.

Stacy Hurst, secretary of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism, stated that Lake Catherine is one of the most visited Arkansas State Parks. It is home to structures dating back to the Civilian Conservation Corps era of the 1930s.

She added that these upgrades and repairs would aid in preserving this historic and natural resource for generations.

The staff informed the public that visitors’ centers would be open in the interim to accommodate reservations, address questions, and track progress on maintenance.

The day-use areas, cabins, marina, campgrounds, and most trails will be off-limits due to safety concerns, contractor expectations, equipment movement, the performance of in-house maintenance/renovation projects, and trail work.

Shea Lewis, director of Arkansas State Parks, said closing an Arkansas State Park is never an option taken lightly. However, the temporary closure of a park is required to efficiently and safely make long-term repairs and upkeep.

She explained that the shutdown would enable us to concentrate solely on the repairs in the pipeline and also provide an opportunity to do some maintenance tasks in a park so loved by the community.

The Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism announced they would notify the Arkansas Department of Transportation will place “closed” signs on all major access points to inform visitors that the park will be closed.

All cabins and campsites are now closed for reservations for more than a calendar year in preparation for this shutdown.

Thrilling news! During the closure of Lake Catherine State Park, visitors can enjoy exploring nearby parks like Lake Ouachita and Hot Springs National Park. I think this presents a marvelous opportunity for the park to introduce new environmental initiatives, making the experience more sustainable. Can’t wait to see the improvements when the park reopens in 2023!
