Worcestershire Crowned UK’s Top Staycation Destination for 2024

Auto Finance’s study named Worcestershire as the must-visit staycation spot for 2024, surpassing popular spots like Cornwall and the Lake District. This picturesque county in west-central England, nestled in the western Midlands, has captured attention with its rolling hills, rich history, and diverse attractions.

The Auto Finance report evaluated UK destinations based on several factors, including location, five-star restaurants, Michelin stars, number of four-star and above campsites, and the quality of hidden treasures.

Worcestershire secured the top position with a total score of 41.5 out of 50, excelling particularly in hidden treasures (7.1) and top-tier campsites (8.6). In the overall ranking of UK staycation destinations, Worcestershire’s top position is followed closely by Rutland in second place, with Cornwall, Kent, and North Yorkshire rounding out the top five.

For camping enthusiasts, Worcestershire doesn’t disappoint. Malvern Hills Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite offers views and unique facilities.

One of the county’s most striking landmarks is the Worcester Cathedral, which dominates the city’s skyline and sits beautifully beside the river. This architectural marvel showcases Worcestershire’s rich history and cultural significance. Additionally, Visit Worcestershire recommends Harvington Hall, a stunning moated manor house dating back to the 1300s, for those seeking less well-known spots.

Jacqui Dance, proprietor of Bredon-Vale Caravan and Camping, told Worcester News that their guests love visiting Worcestershire for its picturesque scenery, often described as the “good old English countryside.”

She also highlighted the area’s diverse attractions, including hills, historical sites like Tolkien references and the Battle of Evesham, and a wide selection of National Trust places.

“It is easy to get to and from most places in the UK and Europe due to its access from the M5, A46 and M40 and there is so much to do, from Morris dancing festivals to organized walks, farm shops and river activities,” Dance said.

Another aspect is the county’s culinary scene. The Michelin Guide highlights several exceptional dining establishments in Worcestershire, including The Inn at Welland and Eckington Manor. These restaurants offer exquisite culinary experiences that rival those found in more traditionally renowned foodie destinations.

For those seeking relaxation, the Droitwich Spa Lido offers a unique experience. This inland, open-air, saltwater swimming pool is one of the few remaining in Britain, providing a refreshing retreat for visitors and locals alike.

Worcestershire’s accessibility is another factor contributing to its appeal as a staycation destination. Its proximity to major motorways makes it easily reachable from various parts of the UK and Europe.
