Powys Campsites and Glamping Resorts Earn National Recognition

Powys campsites have gained national recognition in the annual Campsites.co.uk Camping and Glamping Awards, highlighting the region’s appeal as a destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Several sites received accolades, with Cwmdu Campsite in Crickhowell taking the title of Best Campsite in Mid Wales.

Judges commended Cwmdu Campsite for its location in the Brecon Beacons, its on-site food options, well-maintained facilities, and high guest satisfaction, with 96% of visitors recommending the site.

Operated by Sarah Farr, her fiancé Calvin Clark, and a team of four wardens, the campsite has a family history dating back decades ago.

“Our campsite has been in our family since the late 1950s. It opened in 1964 and was run by my grandparents with just a few caravans, it has now grown to over 100 pitches. I love running the campsite with my fiancé and meeting guests from all over the UK and the World,” Farr told Powys County Times.

“We feel incredibly lucky to work in such a picturesque place and I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved. Every year we endeavor to improve things even more so guests love the campsite as much as we do.”

Other Powys campsites also earned recognition. Spring Rock Fishery and Caravan Park near Llandrindod Wells was noted for its suitability for fishing and access to scenic walking routes.

Meadow Springs Country and Leisure Park, offering nearly four miles of walkways, was described as an ideal location for relaxation. Gwerniago Camping Site near Machynlleth received praise for its family- and dog-friendly environment, alongside its access to various walking trails.

Glamping destinations also featured prominently. Wigwam Holidays Builth Wells was highlighted for its amenities, including hot tubs, a fire pit, and a lake for kayaking and swimming. The Llangorse Multi Activity Centre was acknowledged for its focus on adventure-oriented holidays.

Martin Smith, founder of Campsites.co.uk, described this year’s competition as particularly strong, celebrating the efforts of the winning sites. He praised their dedication to excellence and their role in bringing adventure to visitors.

The awards underscore Powys’ reputation as a destination for both traditional camping and unique outdoor accommodations, offering a variety of experiences for visitors.
