A new eco-friendly and accessible glamping site has been proposed in Combe St Nicholas, Somerset, England. According to a report by the Somerset Leveller, the project aims to create five glamping pods and convert an existing barn into glamping facilities and additional accommodations. The plans have since been submitted to Somerset council for approval.
The development plan places accessibility at its core, with accessible pathways and carefully considered parking arrangements to ensure convenience for guests. “This will include, for instance, disabled specification bathrooms, shared entryways suitable for all persons, variable sink, worktops and table heights, and considered fixtures and fittings,” the application stated.
Environmental sustainability is another key aspect, as the site would be powered by a solar array paired with a battery storage system.
Developers have expressed interest in providing short-term stays for families with children dealing with serious illnesses. “This provided the applicants with confidence that their idea, to offer respite stays, would be a needed and wanted service, and they have continued to reach out to more local charities to partner with, particularly appealing to guests who may not wish to travel too far from their registered medical centres,” the plans cited. “In conclusion, it is considered this proposal is a much-needed expansion of the tourist facilities in South Somerset, providing not only a fully-accessible experience, but also one with an affordable price point compared to the local market.”
