A glamping business in Herefordshire has been named among the finalists for a national tourism award, highlighting ongoing recognition of the UK’s outdoor hospitality sector.
Kaya at Blackhill Farms, located in Craswall, Herefordshire, has been shortlisted as one of the best glamping destinations in the country as part of awards organized by VisitEngland.
The organization stated that this year’s finalists reflect high standards across several categories, including accessibility, accommodation, visitor experiences, food and drink, and business events, underscoring the breadth and diversity of tourism offerings across England.
The site is co-run by Emily Tokwe, who acknowledged the recognition as a milestone for the small business. Ms Tokwe said: “We are absolutely over the moon.
“Running your own business is a crazy ride, and to receive such recognition means the world.
“We wanted to be good, but did we expect to be this good?
“Maybe in our wildest dreams.”
Kaya at Blackhill Farms operates with a small team and has grown its presence within the glamping sector, which continues to expand as travelers seek alternative accommodation options that combine outdoor experiences with comfort. Ms Tokwe highlighted the challenges and personal commitment involved in running the business.
Ms Tokwe said: “We are a tiny team and have done most of the work with at least one tiny child in tow, both of whom are already showing great interest and promise.
“A huge thank you to all those who have supported us over the years—families, neighbours, and guests.”
For industry professionals, the recognition points to the increasing competitiveness within the glamping segment, where differentiation through guest experience, service quality, and unique settings is becoming more critical. Smaller operators, in particular, may note the role of community support, branding, and consistent guest satisfaction in achieving national visibility.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for June 3 and will take place at Aerospace Bristol, hosted beneath the wings of Concorde Alpha Foxtrot. Winners across all categories will be announced during the event.
Looking ahead, Kaya at Blackhill Farms has indicated plans for expansion, suggesting continued investment in its offerings as demand for high-quality glamping experiences grows.
Ms Tokwe told Hereford Times: “We have big plans for more spaces so keep an eye on us.
“We are only just getting started.”
For operators in the outdoor hospitality sector, the announcement reinforces the value of national awards in building brand credibility and attracting new customers, particularly in a market where consumer expectations are evolving toward more curated and experience-driven stays.
