Wecamp, an open-air hospitality operator, has expanded its presence in Portugal by acquiring two assets in Odeceixe: Reserva Alecrim and São Miguel.
These properties, spanning over 21 hectares, will offer approximately 300 glamping accommodation units. The resorts are situated on the border between the Algarve and Alentejo regions, just 10 minutes from the beach. Alternative investment manager Meridia Capital now owns these assets, which will operate under the wecamp brand.
This acquisition marks a significant step in wecamp’s international growth strategy. Meridia and wecamp have outlined plans for a targeted capital expenditure program to enhance the quality of these assets and improve the guest experience. The strategy involves expanding the resorts while implementing a premium and sustainable approach to operations across both properties.
“This strategy aligns with the growing demand for eco-friendly, nature-focused tourism, offering guests a modern yet nature-centered experience,” Meridia stated, as reported by Portugal Resident.
This expansion is part of a broader strategy initiated by Meridia in 2020 when they launched their sustainable open-air hospitality platform in partnership with wecamp. The collaboration follows an aggregation strategy that has positioned the company in Spain and Portugal.
Victor Iborra, Partner at Meridia and board member at wecamp, emphasized the significance of this move, stating, “Portugal is a key market for open-air hospitality in Europe, and these acquisitions represent a major step forward in our strategy to grow and consolidate our platform. Their prime location and unique offerings will serve as a cornerstone for our presence in the region.”
The expansion aligns with Meridia’s focus on transforming traditional camping sites into sustainable, open-air hospitality concepts. Their strategy emphasizes creating a consolidated glamping platform that prioritizes eco-friendly and nature-centered tourism. This move comes at a time when the glamping market in the Iberian Peninsula is experiencing significant growth, driven by rising demand for unique and eco-friendly accommodations.
