New Hosts Take Charge of Fjellerup Strands Camping in 2026

Fjellerup Strands Camping, located on the Djursland coast, has a history spanning nearly a century and remains a locally managed site with a focus on accessible outdoor recreation. The campsite traces its origins to the 1930s, when holiday homes began appearing along the coast, and large portions of the area were being privatized.

Concerned about maintaining public access, the board of Fjellerup Sparekasse purchased a 5-hectare site, allowing previous landowners to retain hunting rights.

Following this acquisition, the area became a popular destination for local families. Residents from Fjellerup and neighboring towns visited during the summer months, often cycling or driving to the coast for picnics while children played in the water. Over time, the site evolved from an informal gathering spot into an organized campsite.

In 1975, changes in legislation prompted Fjellerup Sparekasse to transfer ownership to a commercial foundation, overseen by a local board. Since that transition, the foundation has developed the site to include designated pitches, service buildings, a reception, a kiosk, cabins, and a large activity hall.

Most recently, two glamping tents were added, reflecting a growing trend in outdoor hospitality toward offering more comfortable and premium accommodation options in natural settings.

In 2026, Jette and Thomas took over as the site’s hosts, as announced on their website. According to the foundation, they aim to maintain the campsite’s established style, balancing family-friendly services with a welcoming environment for older visitors.

“Our focus is on cosiness, presence and good experiences in nature – whether you want to relax by the child-friendly beach or explore the beautiful area around Fjellerup,” the hosts said.

For operators and investors in the outdoor hospitality sector, Fjellerup Strands Camping illustrates the benefits of maintaining local management and incremental development, while responding to evolving guest preferences.

The introduction of glamping tents also demonstrates how traditional campsites can diversify offerings to attract new customer segments without compromising the core identity of the site.
