Woodlawn Regional Park Gets Ready for Holiday Festivities

The Woodlawn Regional Park (Saskatchewan, Canada) is preparing for its annual Festival of Lights.

According to a report by Sask Today, Woodlawn business manager Maureen Daoust said the park would be holding various activities that people can enjoy in and around the parks Doug Third Building.

The park is also trying to find a hockey team who can be able to play road hockey alongside guests. The Estevan Art Gallery and Museum also plans to create an art area, and the park plans to set up fire pits for guests to warm up.

Daoust said that due to COVID-19 restrictions, holiday festivities were put on hold for the last couple of years, but the park is glad that they can now hold a free event for the community.

The Christmas season’s kickoff will culminate with fireworks out of the Woodlawn Athletic Park on the north side of the river.

The light shows will be switched on once the fireworks have ended. The lights will go on at dusk every night beginning December 18 through January 7, 2023.

This year the park has 50 to 55 organizations and groups that have signed up, which is about the same level as in 2021. Many of the participants are returning. Some of them couldn’t make it, and a few new participants are joining the event.

Daoust stated that all participants must display their displays by December 13, so the park would have enough time to organize the breakers.

“We can always fit people in last minute, and we would find space for them,” Daoust added.

Local service clubs, businesses and non-profit organizations, churches, and even groups of family and friends are encouraged to show their creative talents and display their unique display at the park.

Daoust said that hundreds of people visit the lights every year. In addition, decorating a light display is a great method to bring happiness and the spirit of Christmas to the local community.

As per its website, Woodlawn Regional Park is a non-profit organization providing and maintaining some of Estevan’s most beautiful recreation sites. The regional park features two campground locations, Woodlawn Main and Woodlawn Boundary.
