Blackstrap Glamping Resort in Saskatoon (Canada) is now open, offering a luxurious camping experience adjacent to Blackstrap Provincial Park. The resort boasts four geodesic domes, each outfitted with a king-sized bed on the main floor and a double bed in an upper loft.
The domes can be reserved online, with rates starting at CA$350 per night, catering for outdoor enthusiasts seeking an upscale outdoor experience. The project, led by business partners Josh Turner and Jane Rusbridge, received approval from Saskatchewan’s parks ministry three years ago.
Since then, it has progressed from the planning stages to welcoming guests. “All summer there’s been construction going on and we’ve been working on it,” Rusbridge said in a recent interview with CTV News.
Turner shared insights into the challenges they faced while constructing domes. It was extremely hard,” he acknowledged, recalling the extensive research and preparation that went into the project, including watching countless instructional videos on glamping domes.
Looking ahead, the resort plans to expand its offerings by adding barrel saunas and two additional domes in the upcoming year.
According to its website, the Blackstrap Glamping Resort features an array of amenities designed to enhance the luxury camping experience in its uniquely styled domes. Each dome is equipped with free Wi-Fi, allowing guests to stay connected throughout their stay. Guests can enjoy added comfort with complimentary toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner, and others. Additionally, the resort provides two plush bathrobes and slippers in each dome.
The loft area showcases a double bed with its own set of pillows and blankets. Some domes, like the Manhattan and Jack, also offer a futon to accommodate extra guests. The kitchen has a microwave, a hot plate with two burners, a fridge/freezer, dish soap, cleaning cloths, and all necessary cooking implements.
The strategy employed by Blackstrap Glamping Resort showcases an example for future glamping owners aiming to create upscale accommodations. The resort’s geodesic domes, equipped with luxury amenities such as king-sized beds and a loft arrangement, aim to cater to a market segment looking for premium experiences. By integrating these high-end features, Blackstrap’s approach illustrates how targeting niche markets can enhance appeal and profitability. Developers can apply this approach by diversifying their accommodation offerings, which encourages repeat visits and increases occupancy.
