Ontario Parks Receive CA$1.8 Million for Cabin Upgrades at MacGregor Point and Inverhuron Provincial Parks

MacGregor Point Provincial Park in Port Elgin and Inverhuron Provincial Park (Ontario, Canada) are set to receive approximately CA$1.8 million from the provincial government.

This funding is earmarked for accommodation upgrades, specifically the construction of additional roofed cabins.

MacGregor Point Provincial Park, which currently boasts ten camping cabins available year-round and six yurts, will see the addition of six more roofed cabins.

Meanwhile, Inverhuron Provincial Park, home to eight one-room cabins, will gain four new roofed accommodations.

These enhancements are expected to attract more visitors to the parks, allowing more people to experience the natural beauty of Ontario’s landscapes.

The funding was presented by Huron-Bruce Progressive Conservative MPP Lisa Thompson. In a statement, Thompson emphasized the importance of this investment, stating, “This investment in Inverhuron and MacGregor Point Provincial Parks is crucial to support expansion of these two local park facilities, given the tourism they attract.”

Thompson added that the improvements would draw more people to experience the wonder of Ontario’s natural landscapes, including the stunning scenery and sunsets enjoyed in Bruce County.

David Piccini, Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks, echoed these sentiments. He noted that in 2022, Ontario Parks recorded more than 12.1 million visits, with overnight camping growing by 9% over 2021. This trend underscores the importance of maintaining and upgrading park infrastructure to ensure a modern and enjoyable experience for visitors.

This project forms part of a broader initiative by the Ontario government, which has committed to a CA$41.7 million investment over two years to upgrade and maintain Ontario Parks infrastructure. This commitment reflects the government’s recognition of the value of these natural spaces, both for their intrinsic beauty and for the tourism revenue they generate.
