Beavermead Campground Unveils New Gatehouse

Beavermead Campground, nestled on the breathtaking Little Lake in Peterborough, Ontario (Canada), has completed the construction of its new gatehouse built of mass timber.

The urban park construction is also set to be completed next month.

According to the Otonabee Conservation’s website, the campground has 18 unserviced campsites and 77 serviced campsites with 30-amp hydro and 50-amp hydro services, plus water hookups.

The campground also has two group campsites, each with a fire pit and picnic table. The comfort station offers showers and washrooms and a sanitary dump station for campers.

The recently completed gatehouse building is where people check in to camp. Last year, the council put aside CA$500,000 to build a new replacement pavilion.

Mortlock Construction bid CA$576,600 to demolish the existing building and to construct a new one. However, other expenses, such as permits, surveys, consulting fees, and testing, totaled CA$709,400.

The work started in March after the council hired Mortlock Construction of Peterborough.

The new gatehouse is part of the third phase of improvements to the city-owned park that has been ongoing for ten years.

Beavermead Campground offers ten seasonal campsites and provides opportunities to explore downtown Peterborough from the water–paddling along Meade Creek and on into Little Lake.

The campground is also accessible to nearby Beavermead Park which features outdoor recreation activities like hiking, enjoying picnic facilities, swimming, cycling, and fishing.
