Fred Henne Campground Welcomes Hay River Fire Evacuees

Fred Henne Territorial Park (Northwest Territories, Canada) has opened its campground to all Hay River evacuees seeking refuge from the ongoing fire.

As per a report, the park invites evacuees to pitch a tent and take shelter within their facilities. Both powered and non-powered sites are available for attendees, with prices starting around CA$22.50 for trailer spots.

Several campers have canceled their reservations to accommodate evacuees in need. According to representatives from Fred Henne Territorial Park, camping offers a more affordable solution compared to hotels, which are beginning to fill up and may be expensive for some evacuees. Additionally, the park is pet-friendly, providing a housing option for evacuees with animals.

The decision to open the campground to evacuees demonstrates a sense of community during a time of crisis. Residents, businesses, and governmental organizations are all working together to provide support for those affected by the fire.

The Hay River fire has forced numerous residents to evacuate their homes in search of temporary shelter. As hotels and other lodging options become limited, the availability of camping spots at Fred Henne Campground offers a viable solution. This alternative allows evacuees to remain within their community while also having access to essential amenities.

According to the Town of Hay River, NT’s Facebook page, the conditions in Hay River were “very challenging.”

“Dedicated Fire, Public Works and Emergency services in Hay River worked 24 hours on all the small fires from embers and were able to control them with no damage to property or buildings.” the post indicated.
