Jim Gorrie, owner of Classic Trailers in Headingley, Manitoba, has been named Chairman of the Board for the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) of Canada.
Gorrie entered the RV industry in 1986, managing a fleet of rental RVs for GNR Camping World, a Winnipeg-based family business founded by his father-in-law, Gil Robert. Alongside his brother-in-law, Gorrie eventually acquired the dealership and guided it to success before its sale in 2023. During his tenure, he also owned Recreation World in Thunder Bay, Ontario, for a decade. Later that year, Gorrie purchased Classic Trailers with his wife, Louise, and son, Michael.
Known for his dedication to customer satisfaction, Gorrie has prioritized delivering high-quality service throughout his career. His leadership extends beyond his businesses; he has been an active member of RVDA at both provincial and national levels. In Manitoba, he served as Chair of the provincial RVDA before joining the national board in 2010.
Gorrie’s contributions to the RV industry are notable. In 2018, he was named Dealer of the Year, recognizing his commitment to the sector. As Chair of Go RVing Canada, the industry’s marketing organization, he played a pivotal role for seven years before passing the position to his son, Michael, in 2024. His advocacy efforts have also included representing RV industry concerns to Canadian Members of Parliament.
A former hockey player, Gorrie remains an avid participant in the sport, balancing his professional achievements with personal passions. Since 1989, he and his family have enjoyed camping at Lake of the Woods, fostering their connection to the RV lifestyle.
According to a press release, other officers for the 2024-2025 term include Ken Dobson of Leisure Time Sales in Quispamsis, New Brunswick, serving as Vice Chair; Marc Rémillard of Roulottes Rémillard in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, as Treasurer; and Dale Hopkins of RV City in Morinville, Alberta, as Past Chair.
