Parks Canada Hosts Camping Event at Loop Brook Campground

Parks Canada, in collaboration with Kelowna Community Resources, Okanagan College, and Kamloops Immigrant Services, is hosting a camping event to help new Canadians learn about camping and outdoor safety. The event, scheduled for June 21 to June 23, will take place at the Loop Brook campground near Revelstoke, British Columbia.

This initiative is designed to introduce 50 new Canadians from Kamloops and Kelowna to camping. Participants will engage in various workshops and demonstrations, gaining essential knowledge about outdoor activities and safety, featuring workshops on sleep systems, backpack fittings, trip planning, and other topics.

Sierra Stinson, a spokesperson for Parks Canada, emphasized the educational value of the upcoming camping and outdoor safety program.

“Participants will learn all about camping and outdoor safety, as well as take part in demonstrations and workshops provided by Valhalla Pure Outfitters, Revy Outdoors, and Revelstoke Search and Rescue,” Stinson said.

According to an article published by Castanet on June 20, the Learn to Camp program is a paid event that aims to connect first-time campers with the Canadian camping experience. It also seeks to build awareness of family health and wellness by encouraging outdoor activities.

Stinson added that developing new and innovative initiatives like Learn to Camp enables more Canadians to experience the outdoors and learn about the environment and heritage.

According to its website, British Columbia offers various recreation opportunities. The park features frontcountry camping trips, multiday backcountry hikes, mountain biking, boating, skiing, and school field trips.

Other outdoor activities include hiking Rocky Mountain trails, cycling over bridges, marine recreation, kayaking on sunny lakes, freshwater fishing, and participating in winter activities.

Parks Canada’s initiative highlights the importance of incorporating workshops and hands-on activities to attract and engage outdoor enthusiasts in future developments. By offering educational programs, such as camping and outdoor safety, these activities can enhance the appeal of recreational sites and encourage repeat visits.
