New Playground Set to Open at Maple Pool Campground on August 4

Pat’s Playground is set to celebrate its grand opening on August 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Maple Pool Campground in Courtenay. This new 1600-square-foot playground will provide a recreational space for over 20 children living at Maple Pool who previously had no access to a playground.

The playground is a tribute to Patrick Davis, a community leader associated with the WeCan Shelter Society, a non-profit organization transforming shipping containers into homes for the homeless.

According to an article published by Comox Valley Record on July 25, playground organizer Charlene Davis said that kids had always asked Pat for a playground and the time had come to build one. She’s “overwhelmed” by the community support from building suppliers and contractors who donated construction materials and their time to help the community.

The realization of Pat’s Playground has been made possible through a combination of grassroots support and established community organizations. A GoFundMe campaign set up in Patrick Davis’s memory provided a portion of the funding, while the Rotary Club of Comox also contributed to the cause.

Maple Pool Campground, nestled in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, is conveniently close to shopping, theaters, golf courses, ski resorts, boat rentals, fishing spots, and recreational sports centers. This location is also just minutes from Courtenay’s city center.

The campground features full hook-ups with electric and water, pull-throughs, campsites, hot showers, laundry facilities, and easy river access, situated just half a kilometer from the highway.

The summer season runs from June 1 to September 30, while the off-season extends from October 1 to May 31 with limited site availability. Visitors should adhere to the 10 km/h speed limit throughout the campground and ensure children are supervised, especially near the river. Additionally, pet owners must keep their pets on a leash.

Propane and charcoal fires are allowed until 11:00 p.m, provided they are attended at all times, kept low, and contained, with fire bans potentially imposed during the dry season. Each site also accommodates one RV and one vehicle, with washing of vehicles prohibited on-site.

The grand opening of Pat’s Playground at Maple Pool Campground highlights the benefits of adding recreational amenities. For campground operators, developers, and RV park owners, investing in family-friendly facilities can enhance the overall guest experience, and encourage longer stays and return visits.
